Wanting to get your kids to have a proper diet is something that most parents hope for.  However, it can be a struggle when kids don’t have developed palettes yet, or throw a fuss when they see anything green put on the table in front of them.

When it comes to getting your kids to eat their greens it can be a full-on war zone depending on their temperament and age.  Whether it’s because they have an addiction to junk food, or are simply afraid of trying new foods, it can be a struggle for any parent.  However, it doesn’t have to mean that you should give up on trying to get them to have healthy eating habits.  Sometimes all it takes is knowing a few tricks to get them to eat up.  Here are some of the best tips for getting your kids to eat their veggies without having to put up a fight.

Use a Reward System

Sometimes the best way to convince kids to follow through with things is by using a reward system.  Whether it’s offering them a dessert at the end of the meal or having a goal at the end of each week which they earn by accomplishing good deeds, this can be a great motivator for getting kids to do what they wouldn’t want to do otherwise.

Some parents use a sticker chart which keeps track of each time that they eat their veggies.  After filling in a certain amount of squares with stickers they get to earn a treat.  This is a great win/win system since the parents get their kids to eat their veggies, and the kids have a great sense of pride seeing all that they have accomplished on their chart.

Mix It into Sauces

One clever way to sneak in a variety of vegetables into your children’s foods is by pureeing it into sauces.  Spaghetti can be the easiest since you can mix it into a tomato sauce virtually undetected.

Often it’s not that children don’t like their veggies but that they don’t like the idea of them.  Therefore blending it into other tastes is a great way to get them to develop a liking for it without them even knowing it was there.  They may love zucchini and never even knew it!

Be An Example

One of the most effective ways to get your kids to do anything in life is to be the example.  When your children see you doing something they will naturally imitate you.

Try to always set an example that you enjoy vegetables and they aren’t some sort of dreaded punishment. This way they will see that there is nothing to fear.
